These ‘one day’ retirement scams need to be ended.

The Federal goobermint has a similar measure, called the “Rehired Annuitants Program”. Theoretically, the program is intended to temporarily supplement staffing shortfalls by bringing back experienced employees for specific projects. They keep their annuity while getting paid a full time salary.

I must emphasize TEMPORARILY and SPECIFIC PROJECTS, because I’ve seen cases it’s neither temporary nor specific. No, in those cases, it’s more a matter of giving an old buddy a job because he’s an old buddy, and not because a job needs doing.

This program was authorized soon after the start of the Global War On Terrorism, under the Bush administration, to cover the personnel losses due to mobilizations and extra work from the war effort. What with GWOT becoming OCO, and dropping in priority, it’s high time the “Rehired Annuitants Program” was retired.
