Seamus Heaney Has Died
He was a giant. A wonderful poet, and frankly a damned fun guy; I shared a few pints with him in oh ’84 or ’85 when he came to Virginia for a talk.
His translation of Beowulf is simply stunning.
RIP

He was ONE GREAT poet!
Very true Bing. His translation of Beowulf is a great read and was the first that enabled me to actually “get it”. Might just have to get some of his poetry now.
His poetry is magnificent–I have used one poem with my younger students for the past three years and they get into it. Gonna be hard to teach this year, to tell them he’s gone.
