Senate Dems Willing to Let ALL Bush Tax Cuts Go BOOM!

…to make a point to mean, petty Republicans that 1%ers need to PAY MORE, DAMMIT!!!

Sounds like a surefire way to keep that Senate majority to me, so have AT it, Patty, girl!

Democrats open door to letting taxes rise in 2013 to reset debate with GOP

Senate Democrats appear willing to use your paycheck to play political hardball on taxes unless Republicans agree to President Obama’s plan to raise taxes on America’s top earners.

A top Senate Democrat warned Monday that, if Republicans don’t relent, her caucus is willing to let all the Bush-era tax rates expire at the end of the year — in effect threatening to let the country fall off what many in Washington call the “fiscal cliff.”

That cliff is approaching at the start of 2013, when the Bush tax cuts are set to expire and billions of dollars in automatic spending cuts — spawned by last summer’s debt-ceiling debate — are set to take effect. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are hoping to shift around those spending cuts to spare key areas like defense, and to temporarily extend the Bush tax rates for at least some Americans. Some have warned a failure to do so could send the nation back into recession.

But Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., indicated Democrats are willing to let the deadline pass in order to better their negotiating position.

“So if we can’t get a good deal, a balanced deal that calls on the wealthy to pay their fair share, then I will absolutely continue this debate into 2013 rather than lock in a long-term deal this year that throws middle-class families under the bus,” she said in an address Monday afternoon at the Brookings Institution. Murray is head of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the campaign arm for Senate Democrats.

Yup. That’s a plan!

ths update: Seems like folks here ’bouts (linked by Instapundit) are starting to take notice of the Democrats’ well reasoned stand…O_o

Look Who’s Holding the Economy Hostage Now

Democrats say they’ll let all the Bush-era tax cuts expire if they can’t raise taxes on the rich. Apparently, economic catastrophe is a reasonable price to pay for class warfare politics.

On Monday, Sen. Patty Murray, who heads the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, said that “unless Republicans end their commitment to protecting the rich above all else, our country is going to have to face the consequences of Republican intransigence.”

What she really means is Democratic intransigence.

After all, Republicans have taken the perfectly reasonable position that the last thing you want to do when the economy is barely breathing is raise taxes.

Obama himself once made that argument, at a time when the economy was doing better than it is today. And a few level-headed Senate Democrats agree.

I propose a new Democratic campaign slogan:

Anybody moves, the ECONOMY GETS IT!!!

Murray is the only senator stupid enough to publicly endorse this transparently political blackmail by the Dhimmocrats. To say that she’s dumb as a box of rocks is to insult geologic formations throughout the universe.

That said, let me point out that this cretin was re-elected (alas!) only 2 years ago, and is not up for re-election until 2016. So there won’t be any immediate voter backlash against her, and the leftie infestation on the west side of the Cascades will have forgotten their being thrown in front of the bus. As it is, the Junior Senator for Washington State (Maria Cantwell) is up against several tough candidates during tough times. I suspect that this is something that the DNC, maybe even President Zero hisself, worked up, but I expect she’s sweating it about now. Neither of her primary opponents will forget this.

God, I hate being treated as cannon fodder by politicians. It’s time to flush out D.C.

  2. tree hugging sister says:

You’ll notice this billiant throwdown is all being planned on the assumption your cretin and her cronies HOLD the Senate, JeffS. This needs to go OUT like a clarion call! There’s a damn fine chance they might not. 🙂

  3. JeffS says:

Yeah, true, it’s a calculated bluff on their part.

I can assure you that this WILL go out and about within Washington State. Cantwell is only marginally better than Murray, and (as I said) she IS up for re-election.

    Time to up the ante.

  4. aelfheld says:

And they call the Republicans the Stupid Party?

  5. aelfheld says:

    Br’er Rabbit, call your office.

  6. Gary from Jersey says:

So Republicans have to spend all their campaigning explaining basic economics to voters with the attention span of a gnat. That’s just great.

  7. aelfheld says:

Nah. They just need to tell everyone the Democrats want to raise taxes. Again.

  8. Michael Lonie says:

    Aelfheld,
That will have the refreshing virtue of actually being true; a case almost unprecedented in political discourse.
