The Beautiful Blue Purple Danube

It’s putting a lot of Strauss on the environment

KOLONTAR, Hungary – The toxic red sludge that burst out of a metals plant reservoir and inundated three villages reached the mighty Danube on Thursday, but an Hungarian emergency official said no immediate damage was evident on Europe’s second-longest river.

What an awful awful mess. I read somewhere that the volume of sludge actually exceeded the BP spill

The huge reservoir, more than 1,000 feet (300 meters) [did they run these figures by Rick Sanchez?] long and 1,500 feet (450 meters) wide, was no longer leaking and a triple-tiered protective wall was being built around its damaged section.

I’d guess it’s “no longer leaking” because, um, all the stuff leaked out already, but that’s just me being negative.

This is just great. I discovered a great little Hungarian red, now this.

  2. Damn, what a shame. It’s so beautiful there. I hope the clean-up goes well.

“This is great! More green legislation – maybe even cap-and-trade! And hey, we can hit them up for another $20 billion. Get Air Force One warmed up, Rahm.”

First of all, Joe – I’m the President. Second, Rahm quit last week. And like they said in the briefing, Hungary is not one of the 57 states.

    “Sorry, Barry.”

    …I can’t frickin’ wait for 2012…
