There Is So Much That Is So Perfect…

MANALAPAN — A 17-year-old Marlboro boy driving on a provisional driver’s license is being cited by police for causing a four-car collision on Saturday, as he attempted to make an illegal left turn on Route 33 because his GPS “told him to turn left.”
The teen, who had two juveniles in the car with him in violation of the state’s graduated license rules, was headed westbound on Route 33 in his Ford Mustang when, he told police, his GPS told him to make a left turn onto Sweetmans Lane, police said.
Click through to the APP and look at the picture of where this took place (I am very familiar with the place): he made a left turn across a four lane highway.
At an intersection that has jughandles and lots of “all turns from right lane only” signs.
With other juveniles in the car.
A car that happened to be a Mustang.
Goddamn I love New Jersey.
It makes my chest swell with pride to realize that this took place but a few short miles (including several left turns) from my house.
Just thank your lucky stars that the Marlboro Man wasn’t smoking in the car at the time. Sooo, does the kid have to walk a mile for a camel now or what?
That photo of the jughandle made me sad. I’ve spent many a happy hour just yards away from that intersection documenting the goings-on in the Dress Boutique window.
that was about two miles from my house. typical Manalapan – 17 year old kid driving a car that costs more than my house did when we bought it thirty years ago. this town makes me puke…
Kids today. I had a Mustang when I was 17 and I didn’t need any stinkin’ GPS to get in trouble.
Nothing says NJ driving like jughandles. It probably would not have made a difference if he’d had a top of the line GPS in the car–all those other factors were time bomb components.
I can’t comment on NJ “jughandles”, never having been in NJ, nor driven on “jughandles”, whatever they may be.
But blindly following the directions of a GPS? That’s a recipe for disaster.
But blindly following the directions of THS? That’s a recipe for disaster.
Ain’t that the truth…
But sure – slap a sticker on his license plate – THAT will guarantee everyone’s safety.
Counting down on the lawsuit against the GPS company…
Ain’t that the truth…
