London attackers shout ‘Allahu Akbar,’ machete man to death
A machete-wielding attacker and his gun-toting sidekick killed a man in the streets of London on Wednesday, and police are regarding the pair – whom they subsequently shot – as potential terrorists.
The prime minister called the incident “truly shocking,” and said police are investigating it as a terrorist attack, BBC reported. Witnesses say they saw a man walking down Woolwich Street, when he was attacked by two individuals. They also said they heard at least one of the attackers scream ‘Allahu Akbar,” meaning God is great, during the course of the attack, BBC reported.
A local police officer said the man who was killed was a soldier at Woolwich barracks, various media reported.
Police fired at the two suspects, who were subsequently taken to the hospital – one by helicopter, one by ambulance. One remains in critical condition, BBC reported.
The Associated Press reported that the attackers were out of control.

More than 100 supporters of the English Defence League tonight gathered near the scene of where a soldier was hacked to death by Islamic fanatics and threw bottles at police.
Officers formed a cordon and the men left the immediate area after the brief incident. Some of the EDL supporters gathered at The Queen’s Arms pub locally, where they sang nationalistic songs.
One local Muslim said that a brick had been thrown through a mosque during the march.
…The EDL men had first gathered at Woolwich Arsenal station in Woolwich, south-east London. Riot police with shields stood guard outside for a short time, before moving back into their vans.
The EDL group waved a flag of St George and chanted ‘no surrender to the Muslim scum’. Around 20 of the men wore black balaclavas with an EDL logo on the front.
Leader Tommy Robinson addressed the crowd, saying:
‘We have got weak leadership. They have allowed this to happen. People are scared to say the word Muslim. They are scared to offend them.
‘You know what? We are offended. People in this country are angry. They have had enough.’

I feel we are in stand-by mode for a conflagration of epic proportions.

They will do nothing. They are cows, not bulls. They may have been upset but are too docile to remain angry long.
The “brave” mom is the best they can come up with to make it appear that the entire nation is not cowardly. A brave man should have fought these murderers. In fact, many brave men should have done so. I suppose there aren’t many left.
The EDL aren’t too savory but those are the kinds of groups that pop up when timid PC governments criminalize popular expressions of discomfort about multiculturalism and “tolerance” of unassimilated and radicalized minorities. Just because we can’t talk about a problem in “polite” and “enlightened” company doesn’t mean it’s not a problem.
@leelu – never mind concealed. Though it’s nice if they don’t KNOW…adds a bit of danger to everyone.
@THS – even the ever-too-polite (except to their friends) English have their limits.
@julie – that is one helluva lady, there. And she is (one) example of why I don’t think the Brits are dead yet.
They are somewhat like us, yanno – we don’t like to fight either. But if we get forced into a fight, we give it all we’ve got. I think both of us still have that trait.
Or, at least, I hope they do too. We have it. Still, even now. What we don’t have – and haven’t since before Korea is an administration who will LET us give it all we’ve got. (And, yes, that’s both Dem and Rep.) SOME of us opposed the war in Vietnam because we weren’t allowed to WIN. DECISIVELY.
