This Is Just a Test

Harvard gym tests Muslim women-only hours
Harvard University has banned men from one of its gyms for a few hours a week, a move to accommodate Muslim women who, for religious and cultural reasons, cannot exercise comfortably in their presence.
The policy is already unpopular with many on campus, however, including some women who consider it sexist.

“I think that it’s incorrect in a college setting to institute a policy in which half of the campus gets wronged or denied a resource that’s supposed to be for everyone”…

Of course, it’s a private school and they can dang test out any old thing they want. In keeping with the apparent Islamic custom of graciousness and inclusion, an unaffected Muslim student feels free to dhimmi dictate to her fellow Harvardians.

…Student Ola Aljawhary, who is Muslim and works out elsewhere on campus but is not one of the women who requested the change, rejected that argument.

“The majority should be willing to compromise,” she said. “I think that’s just basic courtesy.

We must show tolerance and respect for all others.

Strange how the argument always works ’round to a bended knee before Islam.
Update: To the commenter from Saugus, Mass, who keeps posting anti-Muslim drivel under different names: Spare us. Go over to Cambridge and say it on the street corner, tough guy.

    Yeah. Funny that.

  2. Judge Rufus Peckham says:

Oh, please, Harvard, spare us the righteous political correctness. Enlightened Westerners rant without compunction about the Islamic world’s backward treatment of women. Yet Harvard expects its male population to be respectful of Islamic women’s medieval notions about men? Would a fair-minded person sense a double standard here? The question scarcely survives its statement.
It is unfathomable why parents of young Harvard men who are paying staggering tuition would allow their sons to be treated as second class citizens. News flash to Harvard: the young men you are banning are the customer.
If a small group of Catholic men sought, in good faith, to ban women from the gym for similar periods of time because their skimpy outfits had become near occasions of sin for them, we all know damn well what Harvard’s response would be. Why is this different? We all know why. The “protected class” is the right sex and the right religion.

  3. Kodiak says:

As soon as Christians can pray openly in Muslim countries (like Saudi Arabia), then we should try to accommodate sexiest Muslims.

  4. SMC says:

Why do you guys use foreign “muslim countries like saudi arabia” as a bludgeon for AMERICANS who were born and raised here but who happen to be muslim? Why do these muslims’ parents and grand-parents foreign countries of origin get used to dictate how the US should treat these AMERICAN citizens who were born and raised here? What kind of stupid logic is that?! And guess what…those muslims girls ALSO payed thousands of dollars to attend. you better dam well be sure they are entitled to get those hours if they want em! And i don’t see why y’all are so mad. Orthodox Jewish girls (and other religious faiths) could benefit immensely from this too as well as other girls too! And, it’s a gym that no one uses on the edge of campus! That’s only blocked off for six hours out of the whole WEEK!

  5. Tainted Bill says:

Perhaps they can set up similar hours where no gays are around, so that God fearing men don’t have to worry about catching teh gay in the locker room. After all, we wouldn’t want homophobes to feel uncomfortable.

  6. disenchanteddave says:

I know the USA tries to set an example for tolerance , racial , religous , etc. But things seem to be going too far way too fast. It started with Muslims going after Mcdonalds,we cant use religous themes and sayings at CHRISTmas, but we are to be respectful and tolerant of a radical religions rights that had nothing to do with the founding and building of this country and will in no way , shape or form tolerate our beliefs ? I must be dumb because I just dont get it. Grow a backbone America ! Shame on you Harvard !

  7. Politically Incorrect says:

The U.S. has become WAY too Politically Correct. Recently, a law was passed there banning face-coverings, for national security reasons. The Muslims balked, of course. The Dutch government was smart enough to say “TOUGH!, IF you want to live in OUR country, YOU WILL ADAPT TO OUR WAYS, IT IS NOT FOR US TO ADAPT TO YOURS!!!” The law remains in place.
The U.S. was founded by CHRISTIANS. If non-christians are offended, TOUGH! Nobody forced you or your ancestors to move here. There’s plenty of desert to live in where you can devote yourselves to Allah and leave us out of it!

  8. Robby says:

“Kodiak, Tainted Bill, disenchanteddave” you are all very correct. If we do not take a stand some where then where does it end? I can’t believe the women of this nation are not more outraged at this type of BS. If we don’t put a stop to this type of crap it won’t be long before our daughters and grand daughters are an enslaved portion of this country too. Seriously where will it end if left to follow this course???

  9. The U.S. was founded by CHRISTIANS.
Well, that’s where we part ways on the issue, quite frankly. Saying we were founded (“found” is more correct) by Christians is like saying we were founded by white Anglo-Saxons and proves nothing. In the context of the times, it simply is. You were Christian or else. What we WEREN’T ~ once the ‘founding fathers’ put pen and Enlightenment principles to paper during our nation’s infancy ~ meant to be is a “Christian NATION”. They were quite clear on that point. These United States were meant to embody the hope and promise of Enlightenment thinking, and shed the shackles and upheavals and turf wars imposed by whatever Christian dogma held sway (at any given time) in England and the continent.
Those old boys were very clear about that and, in their later years, several went on to write law briefs and legislative opinions expressly condemning any sort of state religious requirements/sponsorship/assessments. There was a fundamentalism beginning to creep back into government that alarmed them and threatened precisely what they had strived to achieve ~ that the government of the United States be free of religious tenets in order to more perfectly serve ALL its children.
Which is where my objection to the Harvard experiment/test/caving-in lies and where it is a microcosm of the entire religion versus American principles clash. Are they a university of their student body? Can accommodations be made that do not then infringe upon someone else’s rights as a student of the same? If not, why are their demands more worthy of capitulation than, say, Wiccans who need room to run naked?
Nah. In bending over backwards to coddle religious groups in a public setting, we’ve managed to betray everything the Washingtons, Jeffersons, Adams, et al, worked so diligently to prevent. Instead of insisting on an American/all-encompassing-public viewpoint governing public behavior, we’ve only succeeded…in bending over.

  10. I can’t believe the women of this nation are not more outraged at this type of BS.
Oh, amen to that, Brother Robby. Where the HELL are they?

  11. Ebola says:

Oh, amen to that, Brother Robby. Where the HELL are they?

Busy not giving a shit mom. That’s the whole problem with this entire thing: the people that vaguely give a damn do nothing and the people that don’t, don’t. The whole reason these mongoloid extremists get their way is because our government runs and bows to those that actually work en masse to get something done. Fundamentally it works like this: they all bitch and we don’t slap them down…they get what they want. Besides, Harvard is a bunch of pinkos, what’s really surprising about this?

  12. Joel says:

I realize it puts me in the minority, but I really don’t see much problem with this. If you take out the Islam factor, it’s pretty innocuous. I know places like Curves have no-men-allowed rules, simply because so many women don’t like going to a gym and bouncing their flab around in the company of men. Surely there are non-Muslim women at Hah-vahd who would just as soon not work out with men present, too.
The religious angle is only important, ISTM, because Christians would be run off campus on a rail if they asked for something like this.

  13. The_Real_JeffS says:

    …we’ve only succeeded…in bending over.
Islamists refers to this as “dhimmification”.
Joel, Harvard specifically targeted Muslim women for this. Your “what if” doesn’t apply in this case; it applies to Curves, not Harvard.
But, yeah, you’re right about the Christians being reviled if they suggested something similar.

  14. Dennis says:

    HOW OUTRAGEOUS.
The hatemongering, intolerant, Muslims come here, demanding we change into a Muslim country because they are offended by our ways. They need to GET THE HELL OUT of our country.
Students of Harvard – take over the gym everytime these fools exercise.

  15. SiliconDoc says:

Well, I have sensed more than a bit of appreciation from all the “ladies” who like the idea of their own gym time, where the male gawkers, and stronger sex – are absent. Must be tough being a progressive psycho equality lib freak then barely benching a Franklin….with a quarter ton rising next to you.
I suppose these fine ladies bear no blame, though, since they’ve had pently of years to pull this stunt and haven’t.
So the answer is the commie pinko appeasement artists (libtard elite) once again sided with the enemy of the USA. Glad I’m not involved in all this kind of stuff, because I’d lose it and deck some piece of ……-….-……-…..
I’m not a republican, always have been independent from either party, but I’ve got to say the democrats have gone over the edge into insanity. I guess there are enough ragging, lying, goofball lunatics, that the dem leadership can keep behaving (at Harvard) like they do in DC and everywhere else, and the cowering braindead dem-dhimmi sheeple will suck it all up like the idiots that they are.
I’ve explained many things to them, hoping they just hadn’t thought it through, and that was true enough, but their psychobabbling emotional idiocy takes back over after a few moments of clarity.
Maybe the real floor kissers will show up with wash bowls and towels at foot clean prayer time.
The gay thong wearing parade club of harvard, needs to crash their workout room.

  16. The_Real_JeffS says:

Yo, Sis, is that commenter from Saugus, Mass, still sock puppeting?

  17. I think university life would be a lot more interesting if we had co-ed locker rooms and P.E. Why is everybody freaking out about the mingling of the sexes? Buncha skanky prudes!
