Two Soldiers Found Dead
Looks like those poor men have been found.
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) — An Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman said Tuesday that two U.S. soldiers missing since Friday have been found dead, Reuters reported.
U.S. military authorities in Baghdad told CNN they could not confirm the report.
“The two soldiers were killed and they were found in Yusufiya near an electricity plant,” Major General Abdul Aziz Mohammed told a news conference in Baghdad, Reuters said.
Let’s hope we get the bastards that did this.
And our prayers for these young men and their families.
ths UPDATE: Oh, God. You knew we were going to hear this, but I was hoping against hope we wouldn’t. That they’d find them and get them out. Double your prayers to their families, for strength in bearing what they’re going to learn.
Update and Bump: The bodies were booby trapped
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) — The bodies of two U.S. soldiers found in Iraq Monday night were mutilated and booby-trapped, military sources said Tuesday.
…The bodies also had been desecrated, and a visual identification was impossible — part of the reason DNA testing was being conducted to verify their identities, the sources said.
Not only were the bodies booby-trapped, but homemade bombs also lined the road leading to the victims, an apparent effort to complicate recovery efforts and target recovery teams, the sources said.
It took troops 12 hours to clear the area of roadside bombs. One of the bombs exploded, but there were no injuries.
I know this is the reaction they want to provoke, but I freely admit it’s a good thing there are no weapons within my reach right now. Bastards.

“The news is going to be heartbreaking for my family,” Menchaca’s uncle, Ken MacKenzie, told NBC’s “Today” show.
He said the United States should have paid a ransom for the two soldiers from money seized from Saddam Hussein.
Yeah, you’re really helping the family by going on national television and saying this.
What the US ought to do, but cannot because of the national mood, is to get a whole lot meaner with these cretins.

When I was in Iraq, the murderous muj attacked a civilian convoy just south of our southern base in Hit. The attack was south of the city of Hit.
Somehow, miraculously, one contractor got free, maybe they let him go to bring us back. Another contractor was found a day or two later, he seems to have walked to a safe haven and was found.
The muj booby trapped all the bodies. And the vehicles. The bodies were hacked up and slaughtered like animals. Or should I say, like animals had hacked them up.
I get pretty irate at people who don’t understand the nature of the pure evil we are fighting against. There has never in our entire history been a more clear reason for war than the one we’re in now, not the Revolution, not the War Between the States, not World War II. Those may have had clear reasons, but not more clear.
Yet our “religious” leaders, such as the Pope and others, claim that this war is immoral. Government leaders say the poor muj just need to be treated nicely.
Well, there is no measure of “nice” that can return these vermin to the human race. I hope and pray and will fight against turning this war into the sham that the Israelis have had to put up with for a long time, where we pretend the bad guys are just nice guys being misunderstood.
We will never end this war until we destroy fanatical Islam.
I have to say I’m 100% with you there, Mike.
Fortunately, up until now my Church’s statements on the war have been of the “things to consider” variety, and not the stronger “binding on the faithful.” In other words, prudential judgements, based on doctrine but not carrying the same force. As a result, I can consider and then disagree with them.
I rather miss the days when we were honest enough to pray for the conversion of the infidel and the success of our nation’s soldiers in the field. And believers, of all people, ought to know the difference between good and evil, and to recognize their fruits in the world. We don’t go to services to hide from truth but to learn it – would that some of our Squishier Marshmallows knew this.

Krag a .303? Not that I know of. Enfield (and all its multi-viations) was a .303. The Krag was a .30-40.
Small personal story: I’ve never actually shot a Krag but many years ago I had a boss who was a major hobby shooter. He told me that the Krag had the slickest-working bolt of any rifle ever. Next time I got to a gun store, I picked one up. DAMNED if he wasn’t right. It is absolutely the slickest working bolt ever. On top of that, you don’t have to work cartridges into the magazine, you just toss them into the box and close it. Except for the (relatively) underpowered cartridge, it’s a pretty spiffy rifle.
And right at this moment, I am totally frickin’ envious of keith…

Nit pickers…I was refering to the caliber not the name of the round. 30-40 is of course correct. It is a slick action too.
