While it was a stupid move by the complaining patrol AND manager, it is private property. The officers were not there in the course of their duties, and could (theoretically) be asked to disarm.

But the bigger point is — some people are irrational when it comes to firearms. And not a few of them are elected officials.

  2. gregor says:

while it is private property, it is a public place of business and being so there is the expectation that law enforcement will patronize the business while on duty. all the Denny’s owner has to do is hang a sign that says “no cops”.
my biggest concern is the general attitude, as stated by the young woman being interviewed, that the police are armed to protect the public. cops carry weapons to protect themselves, not you. that’s a scary misconception.

If I were considering entering the field of holding up restaurants, this would be on the top of my list.

Yeppers. A point missed by most of the public.

The public are dumb as a box of rocks for the most part. I don’t have any idea what that manager thought was wrong with having armed officers in his eatery. I would argue that police officers are always on duty and being armed goes along with that. It’s true that they are armed to protect themselves and not us…

    Syd B is spot on.

As, unfortunately for the general public, are Jeff S, gregor and major dad.

    Sigh.
