What Exactly Should Be Done?

Allahpundit makes a very cogent assessment of the debate, one which I pretty much agree with.

For all they preach about their love of Science and Reason, the Left’s instinctive response is invariably emotive Nanny-Statism.

Just a few comments: Yes, having lower capacity magazines would help reduce the carnage of a mass shooting but not by much, with minimal practice it takes about two seconds to changeout a magazine. If not a rifle or pistol a shotgun would cause just as much or more damage, even loaded with a regular rabbit load at close range say 15 feet the damage it would do is gruesome. All the background checks are good but don’t stop killers like this. The killer didn’t use armor piercing bullets. Having an identifier on the weapon such as a laser etched firing pin wouldn’t stop anything and is easy to remove. Gun safety classes are fine but don’t stop this sort of thing. If there is a will there is a way for a killer.

Umm. Yeah, but so is the Right’s – just on different issues.

Merry Christmas, from your token libertarian-independent type (note the small L).
