One good thing about the show “24,” if you ever watched it, is that it really emphasized the work the Secret Service does every day for the President. (Admittedly they aren’t ducking bioterrorism, assassination attempts, etc. all the time, but still.)
I am glad that Bush was appreciative of their efforts. He strikes me as that kind of guy.
Normally I’m kind of inclined to give the benefit of the doubt to the President in a situation like this. He was born there, after all, and everyone deserves time off during the holidays.
The problem in this particular case is that he takes time off so often it’s simpler to note the occasions he’s at work rather than the reverse. And even going “back home” for the holidays in this case raises the question – how much of Obama’s family actually still lives in Hawai’i? Who’s he spending Christmas with that he isn’t bringing with him?
