…”The White House is getting, as you indicated Norah, roughed up by its own pay equity rhetoric,” reported Major Garrett. “In an analysis of White House salaries, which nobody here disputes, shows that the median income of female staffers is 88 percent of that of male staffers.”

“Now the study also showed that men and women with the same White House jobs earn exactly the same salary. Now the White House said its gender pay gap is tied to job experience, education, and hours worked among other factors. This matters because those explanations, according to the Labor Department, explain a good deal of the gender pay gap nationally. The big difference in these stories: When President Obama discusses this issue nationally, he doesn’t mention those other work variables, only the broad figure, that 77 cents for every dollar is what women earn compared to men,” said Garrett.

“When the factors that the White House used to defend its gender pay gap are used nationally, the Labor Department says the difference in median wages between men and women shrinks to about 5 cents to 7 cents on the dollar.”

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — U.S. and Canadian Coast Guard crews kept up their battle Monday to clear pathways for vessels hauling vital raw materials on the ice-clogged Great Lakes, where a shipping logjam forced a weeklong shutdown of the nation’s largest steel factory.

Traffic remained largely at a crawl after a winter that produced some of the heaviest ice on record across the five inland seas, where more than half the surface area remained solid this week. Icebreaking ships slogging across Lake Superior were still encountering ice layers 2 feet to 3 feet thick. In some areas, wind and wave action created walls of ice up to 14 feet high.

…Only three ships were able to haul coal on the lakes in March, their cargos combining for 102,000 tons – down 70 percent from the same month in 2013, he said. Coal trade was 54 percent below the long-term first-quarter average.

…The shipping season officially began two weeks ago with the opening of navigational locks on the St. Marys River connecting Lakes Superior and Huron, a bottleneck for vessels hauling iron ore and coal to manufacturers and electric power plants. But just one convoy of vessels – including two icebreakers and the two ships hauling iron ore – had traversed Superior with loads of freight.

If only they all converted to wind and solar, there would be flowers blooming and birds sweetly singing all the year round.

Shabazz Napier, point guard for The University of Connecticut’s men’s basketball team, recently told reporters he understands why athletes at Northwestern need a union, as he sometimes has to go to bed “starving” because he cannot afford food.

“We as student athletes get utilized for what we do so well. We are definitely best to get a scholarship to our universities, but at the end of the day, that doesn’t cover everything. We do have hungry nights that we don’t have enough money to get food and sometimes money is needed,” the senior told reporters. “I think, you know, Northwestern has an idea, and we’ll see where it goes.”

Last I heard, these poor, starving children so DREADFULLY taken advantage of by these BIG, MEAN colleges (Just because they can PLAY A GAME, mind you.) are taking advantage of a system that offers them a FREE college meal plan, 95% of the time, a FREE TRAINING TABLE on top of world class facilities in which to train, FREE roofs over their ungrateful, petulant heads, not to mention the FREE tens-IF-NOT-HUNDREDS-of-thousands of dollars worth of FREE college level education – to which, in 90% of the cases, they would NEVER have had access based on actual educational work-ethic, i.e. GRADES.

But every day Dr Mann is demanding that someone be shut up.

Dog walked miles to Washington landslide where former owner is missing

An injured golden retriever found Thursday at the scene Washington’s deadly landslide appears to have walked for miles to get to the location where his onetime owner was last seen, authorities said.

KING5.com reported that Boomer was found there with injuries to his leg and hip. A veterinarian told the station that it appeared he walked three miles from his current home to get to the debris.

The dog’s current owner told the station that her brother is missing in the landslide and he once owned the dog.

They’d be a changed person if they ever had.

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) — Two journalists working for The Associated Press have been shot in Afghanistan, one of them fatally, the news agency said Friday.

The Associated Press said the slain journalist was Anja Niedringhaus, 48, an internationally acclaimed German photographer. She was shot in the country’s eastern Khost province.

The second journalist targeted by the gunman was Kathy Gannon, a Canadian reporter based in Islamabad, the AP said. She is said to be in a stable condition and is receiving medical care.

…The two women were traveling in their own car in a convoy of election workers delivering ballots in Khost province, protected by the Afghan National Army and Afghan police, the news agency said.

A unit commander walked up to their car as it waited to move, yelled “Allahu akbar” — “God is great” — and opened fire on them in the back seat, the AP said. He then surrendered to the other police present.

The reason for the attack is unclear, but police have arrested the suspected shooter and the case is under investigation, Baryalay Rawan, a spokesman for the Khost provincial governor, told CNN.

Women who have the audacity to work, let alone get involved in elections, have a sad history of not fairing so well over there.

Blowtorch + WWII bomb = Bad Idea

(CNN) — Thai scrapyard workers accidentally detonated a suspected World War II-era bomb Wednesday, killing seven and injuring 19 after attempting to cut into it with a blowtorch.

The device was discovered at a construction site in Bangkok, and moved to a scrapyard before workers tampered with it, in an attempt to break it down into smaller parts.

Unfortunately for them, they succeeded.

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) – Vegetarians may have a lower BMI and drink alcohol sparingly, but vegetarian diets are tied to generally poorer health, poorer quality of life and a higher need for health care than their meat-eating counterparts.

A new study from the Medical University of Graz in Austria finds that vegetarians are more physically active, drink less alcohol and smoke less tobacco than those who consume meat in their diets. Vegetarians also have a higher socioeconomic status and a lower body mass index. But the vegetarian diet — characterized by a low consumption of saturated fats and cholesterol that includes increased intake of fruits, vegetables and whole-grain products — carries elevated risks of cancer, allergies and mental health disorders*.

Vegetarians were twice as likely to have allergies, a 50 percent increase in heart attacks and a 50 percent increase in incidences of cancer.

Anecdotally, and y’all well know that there is a direct link from God’s mouth to my anecdotes, basically every vegetarian/vegan I’ve ever known has been the sallowist looking, constantly sniveling, sickest and generally all-around most miserable person of my considerable acquaintance.

I am a firm believer that if our Wise Government is going to mandate anything with regard to Public Health that a requirement that each Citizen consume a minimum of One (1) Bacon Double Cheeseburger each week would be more salubrious to the General Welfare than 99% of the bloviated Nannyisms that currently assail us.

Reports of a Shooting on Fort Hood

We have reports of an active shooter on Fort Hood.

We have reports that there are several injuries from this shooting. There is at least one patient being transported to the hospital.

We are also getting reports of victims in the Battle Simulation Center on 65th and Warehouse.

The suspect is still at large. The shooter was said to be in building 33026 which is the Medical Brigade Building.
