Proposed emissions cuts aren’t enough, U.N. says

Promises by the U.S. and other industrialized countries to cut the emissions causing global warming are insufficient to avoid the worst effects of climate change, the United Nations climate chief said Wednesday.

The international climate talks, which begin Monday in Copenhagen , are a chance to “finally get climate change under control” and put all countries on a path of sustainable growth, said Yvo de Boer , the U.N. official overseeing the meeting.

However, De Boer said one of the main obstacles in the talks was that the emissions reductions offered by rich nations as a group…

…”are not yet where science says they need to be if we’re going to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.”

Okay. I trickstered/hid the decline lied. One little comment/question: who determines whose “science”…says so?

Der Spiegel: Hey, This Guy Really Is An Empty Suit!

You know, the bad part about falling in love is that sometimes you fall out of it

Never before has a speech by President Barack Obama felt as false as his Tuesday address announcing America’s new strategy for Afghanistan. It seemed like a campaign speech combined with Bush rhetoric — and left both dreamers and realists feeling distraught.

…One didn’t have to be a cadet on Tuesday to feel a bit of nausea upon hearing Obama’s speech. It was the least truthful address that he has ever held. He spoke of responsibility, but almost every sentence smelled of party tactics. He demanded sacrifice, but he was unable to say what it was for exactly.

An additional 30,000 US soldiers are to march into Afghanistan — and then they will march right back out again. America is going to war — and from there it will continue ahead to peace. It was the speech of a Nobel War Prize laureate.

At a time when we, and the world, needs a firm hand on the tiller we have indecision, vacillation and poll-driven “vision.” A scary and dangerous combination.

Shock: Scummy Dealings In The NJ Legislature

I know, I know, I should have made sure y’all were sitting down before posting such breaking news. I humbly apologize, Dear Readers, but when I found out the latest proposal from those enlightened Legislators that we have in Trenton, men who feel the very Wisdom of Solomon coursing through their veins, well, perhaps you can forgive me my excess

Assemblyman John McKeon (D-West Orange) today announced legislation meant to keep both U.S. Senate seats in Democratic hands in the event of a vacancy.

McKeon’s measure would give the governor 30 days to appoint someone from the same political party as the senator who, for one reason or another, is unable to complete his or her term. It would also do away with the governor’s option to call a quick special election.

Last time I checked we voted for individuals for elected offices, not Parties.

This is yet another example of how corrupt our process has become, especially the two Parties. They don’t care about issues; they only care about keeping themselves in power. They will continue to do everything they can to ensure that the deck is stacked against anyone who tries to challenge them.

And I give our incoming Governor credit in calling him on it

“It’s garbage. It’s political lying,” said Christie during an eventful press conference in which he also rallied against pensions for non-government employees and the appointment of Middlesex County Democratic Chairman Joseph Spicuzzo to a seat on the Sports and Exposition Authority. “There are no niceties to be put around this. This is a political power play by the party that’s losing power, and it’s wrong.”

Damn straight.

It’s a Shame That, During the MIGHTY THRASHING Our New Orleans Saints

…were administering to St. Tom of Brady and Belichik, the TV started to spin and whirl before my eyes in the most nausea inducing manner. How odd ~ major dad was similarly affected! Wretching feverishly and trying to clear to my garbled vision, I wondered what hell spawn, what fiendish subliminal signal in the box could effectuate such a result? Spontaneous swine flu?
Sadly, as I wiped the spittle remnants from my lips…clarity returned to me.

And the sonofabitch is pre-empting Charlie Brown’s Christmas, too.

If there’s a God ~ and I have been assured there IS ~ he’ll use his Holy Shepard’s Hook to yank that skinny narcissist right out the TV, saving His People any further viewing distress.

Lay your hands on the dashboard and say, “Hallelujah!”

Who Knew The WWF Was Providing The In-Flight Entertainment?

The only downside was that it left no one flying the plane

If Indian national carrier, Air India didn’t have enough problems (pilots going on strike last week, a lawsuit by stewardesses sacked for being overweight, and $875 million in losses last year), now the airline has hit the headlines for a brawl between pilots and cabin crew that reportedly left the cockpit unmanned during a flight between Sharjah, UAE to the Indian capital Delhi.

Indian newspaper The Times of India reports that the pilot, Captain Ranbir Arora and co-pilot, Aditya Chopra, on flight IC 884 got into a full-blown brawl with two members of the cabin crew, a man and a woman.

…During the scuffle, the cockpit was reportedly left unmanned for a time, as the aircraft flew over Pakistani territory. As the parties involved hurled abuses at each other, Arora reportedly threatened to land the plane in Karachi, as the 106 passengers onboard watched in shock.

Finally the pilots returned to the cockpit and locked the crew out, landing the plane safely in Delhi, to the relief of passengers.

I wonder if these guys were ex-NorthWorst pilots?

Vainity Claims Another Victim

I’m sorry, I simply do not understand this. Did she have a birth defect? No. Was she horribly disfigured in an accident? No.

She didn’t like her ass.

And now she’s dead

Buenos Aires, Argentina (CNN) — A former Miss Argentina died Sunday after complications arising from plastic surgery, the official Telam news agency said.

Solange Magnano, 37, died in a hospital after being transferred from a clinic where she underwent an elective surgery on her buttocks on Wednesday, the agency reported.

Magnano ran her own modeling agency in Argentina, and had been a model and Miss Argentina in 1994. She also was the mother of 7-year-old twins.

I admit that I am a male, and as such the fount of all this patriarchal pressure on women to butcher their bodies into shapes that I (via my minions in Hollywood and Madison Avenue) decree as Desirous (even though of course I do no such thing consciously; via the Super Evil Penile Powers that all Men possess these unavoidable commands begin to emanate from our minds when we start breathing); I know this is all my fault.

But I just don’t get it. Not at all. You see all these women on TV who have had all this expensive plastic surgery done and they look like crap, far worse than if they had done nothing. And I’m not even talking about the Jocelyn Wildenstein-type epic disasters; look at what Greta van Susteren did to her eyes. Or even worse, we had to watch Meredith Vieira during the Thanksgiving Day Parade this year; her face is so Botoxed she looked like the Joker…

I hate fake boobs. I hate face lifts and tummy tucks.

Can’t we all just grow old together naturally and spend the money we save on good food and wine?
