We Can’t Undo The Disaster From Katrina
But we can help. Please give generously to the Salvation Army*.
*THS says give your money to The Salvation Army. They are the first people on the scene and they help everybody everywhere without all the bureaucratic mumbo-jumbo of the Red Cross. And she speaks from experience.
These are Americans in need, friends.
Your relatives.
My relatives.

Ohmigod. This is almost too much to watch, too much to process.
Did y’all watch GMA this morning? Robin Roberts is from the Biloxi area, and she’s down there reporting. She was absolutely BAWLING on the air talking about finding her mom’s house and all her relatives safe. It was gut-wrenching.
Still no word from my dad-in-law. However, the wife has put in a request through the Salvation Army and we should hear something soon.
Guys. Guess what? Look to the east.
Also … the Sun Herald, Biloxi’s newspaper, seems to be down. I can’t get the page up at all. If anyone knows different (url: http://www.sunherald.com) please let me know.
I was able to get onto the Sun Herald site, Cullen.
But I know many folks are having trouble. My guess is that, much like on Sept 11th, the internet is simply bogging down with all the folks trying to access info, since the MSM are fairly useless at this point.
Donation made to the Salvation Army.
Cullen — have you tried a local Amateur Radio operator? The Amateur Radio Emergency Services is up and running, nationwide. That includes radio into the disaster area, and they will do “health and welfare” messages for personal reasons. Not knowing where you live, I can’t direct you. But if you have a ham buddy, maybe they can help out.
Donation made.
We actually used the Salvation Army to get through to him. Thanks for the info Jeff.
I’m in Albany, GA, same as Wunderkraut.
Where are you? Are you AD? Shoot me an e-mail:

E-mail shot!
The Salvation Army probably used their ham support to send the request; the ARRL and Salvation Army routinely work together. No matter — the important point is that you made contact!
I did try to donate to the Mennonites via the link provided by Tim Blair, but it’s set up for US and Canada only. Second choice, the Salvos. They piss me off with their excessive self-promotion – well, I think it’s excessive – but they’re doing good work in a terrible situation and that’s what matters.
Thanks Swine (and damn that’s fun to write!). It’s important to put aside ideological arguments now; what matters is that the SA does roll up there sleeves and jump right in.
A Swill Salute, Sir!
Thank you kindly, Mr B.
I second that, Sir Swine!
Stop it, you guys. You’re embarrassing me.
(But it feels nice.)
