Rochester, New York: Wegmans supermarket directs customers not to use Muslim’s checkout line if they have pork or alcohol
It’s a first for Wegmans in this area. They’ve put up a sign asking customers buying pork or alcohol not to use a particular checkout line when a Muslim teenager is on duty as the cashier.
The sign went up a week ago at their Lyell Avenue store.
Wegmans says they haven’t gotten any in store complaints and Wegmans was very upfront about the cashier. They just wouldn’t allow us in the store to talk with her or customers.
Spokeswoman Jo Natale says the cashier is a teenaged girl who wears a head covering. She told her supervisor she was uncomfortable handling those items because of religious reasons. So the store manager who had experience with this type of situation outside of Rochester decided to put up a small sign whenever the girl was at the checkout counter.
It says, “If your order contains pork or alcohol product, we respectfully ask that you choose another lane.”
Gosh. Most people who get a job and THEN have problems “handling” aspects of what they KNEW were the requirements of the job have to GET ANOTHER JOB ~ either somewhere in the store, or seek employment that suits them and their limitations elsewhere.
The CUSTOMER should be inconvenienced by her religious discrimination of their food choices WHY?
I would think Wegmans needs to be more “respectful” of their customers’ patronage, and be concerned rather more about convenience, price and as easy a shopping experience as possible in order to remain competitive. If there’s six bacon lovers piled up and only two registers open, I’ll tell you were I’m plopping my pork pile.
No, I’m not. I’m lying. Because I’m not shopping there.

Roseanne Barr Joins Twitter Vigilante Crew
Star tweeted home address of George Zimmerman’s parents
MARCH 29–The comedian Roseanne Barr last night tweeted the home address of George Zimmerman’s parents to her 110,000-plus Twitter followers, only to delete the posting after “not fully understanding that it was private not public.”
…Barr, who deleted her tweet in the face of criticism from some Twitter followers, noted that she first thought it “was good to let ppl know that no one can hide anymore.” That stance quickly changed, with Barr reporting, “But vigilante-ism is what killed Trayvon. I don’t support that.”
Yeah. Right.
As someone in the comments points out, if the KKK were Tweeting Trayvon’s parents’ (or ANYBODY’S, for that matter) addresses, BOY you’d sure get some action THEN, eh?
Cable mogul Evan Shapiro had a stunningly clueless Trayvon Martin entry on Huffington Post yesterday asking: Why doesn’t the media cover more black crime victims?
Shapiro, the president of indie cable broadcaster IFC, should pose the same question to Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and every member of the black protest establishment: Why don’t you protest more black crime victims? The answer would be the same in all cases: Because the only black victims who interest the race industry and its mainstream media handmaidens are blacks who have been killed by “white” civilians, including honorary whites like Martin’s killer George Zimmerman, or blacks who have been killed or offended by the police (black officers will do here in a pinch).
Unfortunately, there are very few such victims. Ninety-three percent of all black homicide casualties from 1980 to 2008 were killed by other blacks, and are thus of no interest whatsoever to today’s race advocates, because they fail to support the crucial story line that blacks remain under siege by a racist white power structure.
…In the mid-1990s, everything that defined Indiana basketball-the hysteria, the excitement, the pageantry-changed dramatically. Like the hardwood at New Castle years ago, the bottom suddenly fell out. As NCAA basketball began to rise in popularity and televisions started beaming games from across the country into Indiana living rooms, high schools watched as once-reliable crowds slowly trickled away. Teams across Indiana that consistently expected nightly sellouts were suddenly looking up at empty stands. From the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s, a period in which the state’s population held steady at 5.5 million, attendance at sectional, regional and even semi-state tournaments dropped by 25 percent.
Most in the community can trace the decline to two words: class basketball. In the ’90s, a group of small-school principals started lobbying the Indiana High School Athletic Association to move to a class system, with schools divided into divisions based on size. No school with an enrolment of 500 or less had won a state championship since Milan in 1954. Smaller schools wanted a better chance of going deep in the tournament and bringing home a banner. Purists scoffed at the suggestion, refusing to change an 86-year-old tradition. So the principals took matters into their own hands. Several of them earned spots on the IHSAA executive board and began whispering in ears, changing opinions from within. By 1997, they successfully switched the tournament format into one with four classes-1A, 2A, 3A and 4A, separated by enrolment in ascending order. They simply lopped the entire state into four quarters and in 1998 awarded four state titles to four schools that had never won one before. In the 14 years since class basketball’s inception, there have been 56 state champions.
The argument against class basketball is that it eliminates much of the allure and magic of a small school taking a run through the tournament. Milan’s 1954 triumph could never happen in class basketball. Anyone who played at a small school in the single class system will tell you the most exciting part of the tournament was travelling to Anderson or New Castle and trying to knock off the big boys. Winning a sectional was akin to winning a state title for some small schools. But now the romance was gone; it was small schools vs. small schools and big schools vs. big schools. One year after the class system was introduced, attendance at regionals dropped from 168,715 to 71,384 and at the state finals from 55,125 to 27,295. The IHSAA saw a $600,000 dip in revenue between 1997 and 1998 alone.
Not helping the cause was the rapid consolidation of schools in Indiana, which dropped the number of tournament entrants from 755 in 1955 to just 401 this season. As manufacturing jobs started to disappear in the 1990s, more and more families left the state. High school enrolments plummeted. A town like Anderson, which once had three schools, no longer needed-or could even afford-that many. Since 1959, more than 400 small schools in Indiana have been consolidated with others in their areas. Cross-town foes, and even regional rivalries, were eliminated. Community identities and fierce loyalties went with them.
As schools were shuttered, so too were their storied gymnasiums. The biggest gyms stayed intact, gigantic symbols of what basketball used to mean here. But in the early morning on July 1, 2011, the unthinkable happened. The Anderson school board dispatched a service crew to change the locks at the Wigwam.
Bluegrass legend and banjo pioneer Earl Scruggs, who helped profoundly change country music with Bill Monroe in the 1940s and later with guitarist Lester Flatt, has died. He was 88.
Scruggs’ son Gary said his father died of natural causes Wednesday morning at a Nashville, Tenn., hospital.
Earl Scruggs was an innovator who pioneered the modern banjo sound. His use of three fingers rather than the clawhammer style elevated the banjo from a part of the rhythm section — or a comedian’s prop — to a lead instrument.

Spike Lee fancies himself quite the human rights crusader. Remember when he tweeted out what was supposedly George Zimmerman’s home address? In the name of justice?
Well, Spike managed to overlook one itty-bitty piece of information: that address doesn’t belong to George Zimmerman. It belongs to a woman named Elaine.
According to [a neighbor], a number of news agencies drove through looking for Mr. Zimmerman. While it was not wise at to incite the masses to go to an address he thought was Mr. Zimmerman’s to begin with, Mr. Lee should should still “do the right thing” and give the actual resident at the address above some peace and apologize for disrupting her life.
Yeah. You a too cool brother.

Gen. Allen: 52 U.S. Soldiers Killed By Afghan Security Forces Since 2007
Afghan Security Forces have killed at least 52 and wounded approximately 70 of their American counterparts since 2007 in what the military describes as “green on blue” attacks, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan told lawmakers last week.
…At the hearing, Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) asked Gen. Allen, “How many ISAF and American personnel have died as a result of green-on-blue attacks? And how many such attacks are still currently under investigation?”
“I’ll have to get you the final number on the numbers under investigation, but we’ve had 52 Americans who have been killed and another 60 or so — 68 — who have been wounded since 2007 when we first started to track these events,” responded the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan.
The number of “green on blue” fatal attacks may be greater given that the Afghanistan war has been raging since October 2001, but the Pentagon has only been keeping track of such deaths since May 2007.
Gen. Allen mentioned that of the 52 “green on blue” deaths since 2007, six have taken place “this calendar year” alone.
However, a seventh soldier [ths notes: a Marine] was killed by Afghan security forces in February, but the Pentagon did not reveal the treachery, the Associated Press reported on March 16. That would bring the total of American deaths at the hands of their Afghan counterparts to 53.
Then again, schmaybe it was just more convenient not to know.

Outgunned! Sturm Ruger Says it Can’t Keep Up with Orders, Shares Surge
Shares of Sturm Ruger & Co. (RGR: 47.93, +5.63, +13.31%) soared as much as 9% on Thursday after the gun maker said first-quarter orders were so strong the company is temporarily suspending new orders.
The Southport, Conn., company said it received orders for more than one million units in the first three months of 2012.
The shares were up $3.29, or 7.8%, at $45.59 in Thursday trading.
CEO Michael O. Fifer said in a statement late Wednesday that retailer programs initiated by the company were successful in attracting orders from larger gun retailers and independent wholesale distributors.
“Despite the company’s continuing successful efforts to increase production rates, the incoming order rate exceeds our capacity to rapidly fulfill these orders. Consequently, the company has temporarily suspended the acceptance of new orders,” Fifer said in the statement.
Sturm Ruger hopes to be accepting orders again by the end of May, the company said.
Shares of the company’s rival gun manufacturer Smith & Wesson (NASDAQ:SWHC) have risen in sympathy, surging more than 12% to a 5-year high…
Obama’s Keystone XL Visit A Potemkin Village Photo-Op
Politics: The president stages a photo-op in Oklahoma to take credit for the portion of the Keystone XL pipeline that doesn’t need his approval and for oil production on private and state lands beyond his jurisdiction.
If one of his aides some morning remarked on a particularly lovely sunrise, it wouldn’t surprise us if President Obama responded with a “thank you,” so gifted is he in taking credit for successes that he has nothing to do with and that occur despite, not because, of his policies.

…Still, we hope Obama’s time here will be instructive, that Oklahoma’s energy leaders have an opportunity to tell the president how the cow ate the cabbage when it comes to the real world of energy as opposed to the idealized world that Obama touts.
Those leaders face a punitive tax increase from Obama. Their use of hydraulic fracturing is under attack. The Keystone XL pipeline from Canada to Cushing is on indefinite hold. Meantime, the U.S. Department of Energy — despite the Solyndra debacle — remains keen on speculative alternative energy ventures.
Is it just us or would Obama’s green energy evangelism be more convincing if he either kept Air Force One parked more often or used electric vehicles for surface transit?
Domestic oil production overall in the U.S. is at its highest level in the past eight years, according to the Energy Department.
But production on federal lands was down 14 percent year-over-year in 2011, and overall remains 13 percent lower than it was in 2003.
Still, Obama – who has made renewable energy a hallmark of his administration — insisted he’s not backing away from drilling or searching for more oil.
“You wouldn’t know it from listening to some of these folks running for office, but producing more oil here in our own country has been, and will continue to be, a key part of our energy strategy,” Obama said.
“We’re drilling all over the place,” he said.

Despite high-profile measures such as the Greek debt deal and mass pumping of liquidity into the banking system, Europe’s problems have merely been delayed for another day, Willem Buiter, chief economist at Citi, told CNBC.
“We have really just paused for breath,” he said. “It (the long-term refinancing operation) really hasn’t solved the problem, and for Europe the worst is still to come.”
He also predicted a further “large-scale ECB intervention” later this year or in early 2013. The European Central Bank injected close to 1 trillion euros ($1.3 trillion) through three-year loans at a very low interest rate into the European banking system in two operations in December and February.

FAU student threatens to kill professor and classmates
Associate Professor Stephen M. Kajiura was reviewing with his evolution class in GS 120 for a midterm when FAU student Jonatha Carr interrupted him: “How does evolution kill black people?” she asked. Kajiura attempted to explain that evolution doesn’t kill anyone.

Why is violence against women worse than violence against men?
As Ebola queried when he put this link up originally, can you IMAGINE what would have happened to the young (white, mind you) lad the woman in the video physically assaults during her unabated rampage through the class? She’s in his face over the desktop and winds up clocking him.
What if he’d shut her down and defended himself (possibly even restrained her until authorities arrived), as ~ in a normal society ~ he had every right to do? Would he have come out on the losing end?
I hope he presses charges, because there’s a damn fine chance Florida Atlantic will wash their hands quickly of this and she’ll be free to do it all over again, empowered by the experience. (Maybe next time with a weapon. I mean, a pen can go through someone’s skull just as easily as that hand of hers hit it.)

National Debt has increased more under Obama than under Bush
(CBS News) The National Debt has now increased more during President Obama’s three years and two months in office than it did during 8 years of the George W. Bush presidency.
The Debt rose $4.899 trillion during the two terms of the Bush presidency. It has now gone up $4.939 trillion since President Obama took office.
The latest posting from the Bureau of Public Debt at the Treasury Department shows the National Debt now stands at $15.566 trillion. It was $10.626 trillion on President Bush’s last day in office, which coincided with President Obama’s first day.
The National Debt also now exceeds 100% of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product, the total value of goods and services.
If Mr. Obama wins re-election, and his budget projections prove accurate, the National Debt will top $20 trillion in 2016, the final year of his second term. That would mean the Debt increased by 87 percent, or $9.34 trillion, during his two terms.
He wouldn’t be so bold as to imply The Light Wielder owns this mess…would he?
