So “Father” and “Son” Get the Heave-Ho from Scripture

…in new Arabic and Turkish translations, in order NOT to offend Muslims…

‘Father’ and ‘Son’ Ousted from the Trinity in New Bible Translations

A controversy is brewing over three reputable Christian organizations, which are based in North America, whose efforts have ousted the words “Father” and “Son” from new Bibles. Wycliffe Bible Translators, Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) and Frontiers are under fire for “producing Bibles that remove “Father,” “Son” and “Son of God” because these terms are offensive to Muslims.”

Concerned Christian missionaries, Bible translators, pastors, and national church leaders have come together with a public petition to stop these organizations. They claim a public petition is their last recourse because meetings with these organizations’ leaders, staff resignations over this issue and criticism and appeals from native national Christians concerned about the translations “have failed to persuade these agencies to retain “Father” and “Son” in the text of all their translations.”

…For example, the verse which Christians use to justify going all over the world to make disciples, thus fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19) reads, “Cleanse them by water in the name of Allah, his Messiahand his Holy Spirit” instead of “baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Rev. Bassam Madany, an Arab American who runs Middle East Resources, terms these organization’s efforts as “a western imperialistic attempt that’s inspired by cultural anthropology, and not by biblical theology.”

…MUSLIMS who might be skeeved out postulating God did the nasty with Mary?

…There are some cases in which it can be shown that a word-for-word translation of these familial terms would communicate an incorrect meaning (i.e. that God had physical, sexual relations with Mary, mother of Jesus; not only does this communicate obvious wrong meaning, but can also give readers the impression that the translation is corrupt).

With what these people routinely do to each other during the course of any given day here on Earth in the NAME of their vile brand of inhumanity, and we should worry about what THEY mis-interpret in OUR religious texts? (Well, even when they’re not doing it deliberately.)

Oh, PISS OFF.

Father/Son/Holy Ghost, footnotes and be done with it, you candyasses.

Our Douchey Little Local Fishwrap Holds True to Form On Primary Day

Witness this excerpt from the GEM of a Letter-to-the-Editor they chose to publish:

…As for caring about Mitt’s income in offshore accounts, I care. I pay taxes on what modest income I make, why shouldn’t he? Moreover, it seems a little hypocritical (unpatriotic?) to avoid paying taxes to a government that one wants to be president of. Why doesn’t Mitt invest his money in the U.S. so that he can create some jobs here?

NOT pay taxes?!?!

That was the only letter they could find referencing Romney on Primary Tuesday? The one with the LIE in it?

…Romney’s advisers and lawyers pushed back against reports in the press that he held money in offshore accounts by noting that these were investments in funds held in offshore accounts by other companies and that all taxes were paid.

“There have been reports that these investments are evading taxes,” Malt said. “Again that is flatly wrong. …The blind trust’s investment in the Cayman funds is taxed the same as if Governor Romney made the investments himself.”

The allegation that had, as the Pensacola News Journal KNEW FULL WELL and reported THEMSELVES here, ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED?

Cheap, CHEAP shot that cannot be rectified. For SHAME.

Speaking of “War”: It’s Just a “Routine” Deployment Now

…but it sure is nice to have the new hardware on station if something goes south…in the SOUTH, isn’t it?

HMS Dauntless destroyer deployed to Falklands by navy

HMS Dauntless is to be deployed off the coast of the Falklands Islands in the South Atlantic, the Royal Navy has confirmed.

The Portsmouth-based ship will be the first of the navy’s new Type 45 air defence destroyers to go to the area.

The Ministry of Defence said it was a routine deployment and HMS Dauntless would replace a frigate currently stationed there.

A MoD spokesman said he would not say when the ship was due to set sail.

He added that the deployment had nothing to do with increased tensions between the UK and Argentina about who owns the Falklands Islands.

Destroyers ~ and brand-spanking new ones at that ~ replacing frigates is always “routine”….winkwinknudgenudge.

As Bugs Bunny Always Says, After All Reasonable Means Have Failed

Of course you realize THIS means war!

Roman Catholic bishops, having expended untold energy on peaceful dialogue/constitutional reasoning with this administration/their EE-VILLE Ice Queen representitive, and, having been spurned and burned in the end by the dismissive Socialists at its helm, are taking matters actively into their own flocks. A letter was read in thousands of parishes this past Sunday, condemning the move to force religious groups to provide employee health insurance for procedures (like abortion) diametrically opposed to their religious beliefs.

But some bishops are taking it even further…

Want to know how seriously the Church in America takes this? One bishop directed that the Prayer to St. Michael be read at services within his diocese (h/t PJM):

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle;
be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray:
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen

Why is that significant? Between 1930 and 1965, when it was last included in regular services, the prayer was recited for the benefit of believers trapped behind the Iron Curtain.

This isn’t just opposition; this is a declaration of war.

St. Michael’s a spear slingin’, serpent pinnin’ BAD ASS. As interventions go…oh, I LIKE it!

ths update: And St. Michael answers…

RUBIO INTRODUCES BILL TO REPEAL OBAMACARE MANDATE AGAINST RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

Rubio: “This is a common sense bill that simply says the government can’t force religious organizations to abandon the fundamental tenets of their faith because the government says so.”

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today introduced the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 2012, a bill to repeal a new ObamaCare mandate that violates the religious liberties and conscience rights of faith-based institutions by forcing them to offer employees insurance coverage for contraceptives.

Earlier this month, the Department of Health and Human Services finalized a new mandate that would require mostchurch-affiliated organizations to offer their workers private insurance coverage without out-of-pocket charges for birth control. The administration ignored efforts by numerous faith-based organizations to be granted an exemption on religious grounds.

“The Obama Administration’s obsession with forcing mandates on the American people has now reached a new low by violating the conscience rights and religious liberties of our people,” said Rubio. “Under this President, we have a government that has grown too big, too costly and now even more overbearing by forcing religious entities to abandon their beliefs. This is a common sense bill that simply says the government can’t force religious organizations to abandon the fundamental tenets of their faith because the government says so.”

HAH!

If it’s not agita from that extra bowl of linguini it may be the knife in your daughter’s hands

VERNON — A 22-year-old former student at New Jersey Institute of Technology pleaded not guilty today to stabbing her father while trying to rob her family’s home in Sussex County.

Looking for something to steal, Natalia Burdzy entered the home in the Cliffwood Lake section of Vernon during the early-morning hours of Aug. 26, Assistant Prosecutor Seanna Pappas has said.

While she was in the house, Burdzy, wearing a ski mask, sweatpants and a sweatshirt, found her father, Andrzej Burdzy, 46, sleeping in a bed and stabbed him three times while he slept, said Pappas.

Alaska? Not so much

FAIRBANKS – Winter continued to show her love of Interior Alaska by bestowing yet another cold snap on its beleaguered residents this weekend.

The temperature at Fairbanks International Airport hit 50 below zero Saturday morning for the first time since 2006, while a low of 57 below was reported in North Pole.

Fort Yukon and Huslia were the coldest Interior communities at 63 below zero. Tanana hit 61 below zero Saturday morning. Bettles, at 60 below, broke its previous record of 56 below, which was set in 1989.

Cpl. Kevin James Reinhard ~ A New Jersey Marine ~ Will Be Buried Tomorrow

There’s a great story on him here from NJ.com.

…Kevin’s funeral will be held on Monday, 9:45am, at Saint Agnes Roman Catholic Church in Clark. Burial to follow at Saint Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia.

Kcruella said the radio is asking for flags and people by the roadside if you can possibly make it. Please try.
And, yes. The Westboro assholes ARE supposedly going to crash it. This is the schedule from the Patriot Riders’ Honor Mission Board for Cpl Reinhard’s funeral. (They’re a great resource for judging times and routes if you want to be on sidewalks to honor our fallen military. When, God forbid, we lose a kid here, I always use their site to see what time to get to my little corner by base with my flags and red, white and blue thank you sign.)

His obituary is heart rending.

…Kevin attended Saint John Vianney grade school, followed by Colonia Middle, and Saint Joseph’s High School. After attending Ramapo College he transferred to Middlesex County College. However, before graduating Kevin felt he needed to answer a call to serve his country. In the spring of 2008 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and attained the rank of Corporal. He was a crew chief, flying on a Sikorsky Sea Stallion with HMH 363 – the Lucky Red Lions – stationed out of Hawaii.

Kevin only had a few short weeks left to his deployment when his helicopter crashed in Afghanistan, resulting in his death. It was his second deployment. For his family and his friends he was already a hero… before he ever put on a uniform for his country. The uniform only announced to the rest of the world what a wonderful man, what a wonderful soul he was – that he was a hero for all of us.

Yes, he is our hero. Not was.

IS.

Semper Fi, dear, brave, beautiful young warrior. Thank you, Corporal and sweet dreams.

Unlike the Complete Lack of Moral Courage on Display

at CNN, the Canadian judge who read the multiple guilty verdicts had plenty to say to the murderous bastards.

Jury finds Afghan family guilty in ‘honor’ killings

A jury on Sunday found an Afghan father, his wife and their son guilty of killing three teenage sisters and a co-wife in what the judge described as “cold-blooded, shameful murders” resulting from a “twisted concept of honor.”

The jury took 15 hours to find Mohammad Shafia, 58; his wife Tooba Yahya, 42; and their son Hamed, 21, each guilty of four counts of first-degree murder in a case that shocked and riveted Canadians from coast to coast.

…But Judge Robert Maranger was unmoved, saying the evidence clearly supported their conviction for “the planned and deliberate murder of four members of your family.”

It is difficult to conceive of a more despicable, more heinous crime … the apparent reason behind these cold-blooded, shameful murders was that the four completely innocent victims offended your completely twisted concept of honor … that has absolutely no place in any civilized society.

Hear, HEAR, your Honor!

Would that those words ring loud and clear everywhere people bow to Islamic perversions of basic human decency in the name of “cultural diversity”.

Australia Day Riot Update

My my my, this is getting messy: it turns out the riot that Australia’s Prime Minister and the leader of the Opposition Party were engulfed in was sparked by one of the PM’s aides who spread a lie about something the Opposition Leader (Abbott) said.

And then the aide said “oh and by the way Abbott’s in that restaurant across the street if you want to go say hello.”

Germany Tries To Annex Greece

Not quite sure why they’d want to, mind you, but hey why not try with your purse what you couldn’t accomplish with your boots

BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany is pushing for Greece to relinquish control over its budget policy to European institutions as part of discussions over a second rescue package, a European source told Reuters on Friday.

“There are internal discussions within the Euro group and proposals, one of which comes from Germany, on how to constructively treat country aid programs that are continuously off track, whether this can simply be ignored or whether we say that’s enough,” the source said.

The source added that under the proposals European institutions already operating in Greece should be given “certain decision-making powers” over fiscal policy.

I can’t imagine how any Greek politician could support this and hope to avoid a noose. They’re simply going to default.

Babette’s Feast

Via our good friend Teresa we learn that the latest banned phrase at the Bundestag is “Email Reply Alles”

(Reuters) – The German parliament’s email system was hampered for several hours for more than 4,000 staffers and deputies when hundreds of workers responded to an errant email sent by one staffer named “Babette” to all 4,032 co-workers.

The flood of emails began when “Babette” accidentally replied to “all” on the Bundestag email list with a short answer to a colleague: “Please bring me a copy of the new directory.”

Their exchange quickly multiplied when hundreds of colleagues responded with comments ranging from please “remove my name from your list” to “I’d like to take this opportunity to say hello to my mother.”

The NewsHour on PBS Tonight Jumped Right On the U.S. Manufacturing Jobs Controversy

In fact, they state a lack of science and engineering training is to blame for hi-tech jobs going overseas.

And then they promptly misspell “engineering” [min. 1:45] in their fancy graphic illustrating the figures that prove it.

Watch How Many Manufacturing Jobs Can U.S. Realistically Maintain? on PBS. See more from PBS NewsHour.

Later in the broadcast, they treated us to a natty academic fellow who explains how liberals are different from conservatives in his new tome. I’ll give you the short version:

Liberals are emotional, caring, empathetic and won’t survive the coming apocalypse because they’ll be too busy worrying their heads off about everyone else. Little kitties included. Conservatives, on the other hand, are so used to taking care of their spoils of war, ill gotten gains, protecting their riches, et al, that they’ll do VERY well, because they can “cause harm” (“no insults intended”) and not feel bad about it, not being so overly concerned with the poor, etc. who would otherwise divert resources necessary for tribal survival. Conservatives have F.O.C.U.S.

I think I got it about right. You watch what you can and tell me if I do.

Obama-backed electric car battery-maker files for bankruptcy

An Indiana-based energy-storage company, whose subsidiary received a $118.5 million stimulus grant from the Energy Department, filed for bankruptcy Thursday.

Ener1 is asking a federal bankruptcy court in New York to approve a plan to restructure the company’s debt and infuse $81 million in equity funding.

“This was a difficult, but necessary, decision for our company,” Ener1 CEO Alex Sorokin said in a news release. “We are extremely pleased to have the strong support of our primary investors and lenders to substantially reduce the company’s debt.”

Taxpayers still owed $132.9B from bailout: report

A government watchdog says U.S. taxpayers are still owed $132.9 billion that companies haven’t repaid from the financial bailout, and some of that will never be recovered.

The bailout launched at the height of the financial crisis in September 2008 will continue to exist for years, says a report issued Thursday by Christy Romero, the acting special inspector general for the $700 billion bailout. Some bailout programs, such as the effort to help homeowners avoid foreclosure by reducing mortgage payments, will last as late as 2017, costing the government an additional $51 billion or so.

…If Treasury plans to sell its stock in the three companies at or above the price where taxpayers would break even on their investment — $28.73 a share for AIG, $53.98 for GM — it may take a long time for the market to rebound to that level, the report says. AIG’s shares closed Wednesday at $25.31, while GM ended at $24.92. Ally isn’t publicly traded.

Why is Ally Financial Inc. a big deal? Because taxpayers own 77% of the company and why don’t you recognize the name?

Because it rebranded itself after being known as GMAC Financial Services became kinda unpopular. Literally WE own the bank.

And will, apparently, for quite some time.

Australia Day Disgrace

Via Tim, Australian PM Julia Gillard and Opposition leader Tony Abbot were trapped by a mob of several hundred today in a restaurant where they were celebrating the founding of their wonderful country.

This is a complete and total disgrace, and I would think the local police have got some serious explaining to do.

A Very Fine Fellow Passed Away This Weekend

On Friday, actually. I was delighted to be able to number Larry and his lovely wife Peggy among my friends here. Not in the “go out together/live at each other’s place” type of friends, but the easy kind of friends you have. Where it seems like you’ve know each other forever, see one another on the porch of a business, or the post office, say “Hi!”, hug (MEAN it) and sit a spell. Know all the questions to ask to catch up on family, life and enjoy the conversation.

Larry was another of those local Pensacola prodigies I’m always marveling about. We first met when I was delivering my glasses to a business in Orange Beach, Alabama. Killing time waiting for the owner, I struck up a conversation with the genial, bearded gent in the Hawaiian shirt sprawled in an hot turquoise Adirondack chair on Tootie Green’s porch. Things went from there, since Peggy was a dear friend of said owner and wound up helping out there a lot. The CD’s Larry was recording in his home studio were selling like hotcakes at Tootie’s and he would have signing sessions on weekends. For his birthday one year, I even did him up a big, fat wine glass covered with everything imaginable music-wise ~ from clefs to notes, staffs and codas. I think I even threw in a “maestro” for good measure.

And in all honesty, that was before…well, here’s the wonderful thing about Larry Butler. I “knew” Larry, but Larry never made sure you knew “who” he was. I only knew he played a mean piano when I made his birthday goblet, vaguely recognized he was a local luminary and I’d known him for a couple years. He was sweet Larry on the porch I always looked forward to seeing.

Imagine my surprise when I heard he also wrote songs. You might have heard of this one ~ it won a Grammy.

But he didn’t just play piano and write songs. He produced albums for other guys. You might have heard of one of these, too.

Matter of fact, in 1979 he won a Grammy Award for Producer of the Year, the only Nashville producer to ever win the award.

But you would have never known he had this “other” life until he started to tell stories, and then you’d wonder, “Where on EARTH…?”, like I did the first time I was at the edge of a Butler story circle on the porch. Mesmerizing. And entertaining as HELL.

Oh, God bless him. What a doll.

The Grinch has several of Larry’s CD’s that he was kind enough to autograph for him ~ I haven’t broken the news to him yet. major dad had to stop by the Community Center to drop off the card for Peggy and Schanda for me, since I had to work. He said the place was packed. I knew it would be.

Larry made real friends.

Another SOTU Clip

I think people are missing the most revealing thing about Obama’s “Milk Joke” last night

It isn’t the reaction of the audience to the fact that the guy simply can’t tell a decent joke.

No, it’s the chutzpah of a guy expressing shock that a government regulation would classify spilled milk as an “oil” and thus cost the farmer thousands of dollars…while at the same time his EPA is declaring human breath a pollutant that needs to be regulated.

I Didn’t Watch The SOTU Speech Last Night

Turns out I didn’t need to

as he’s given it several times before.

What a pathetic, simply pathetic “ruling class” we have.

The Taliban released a video over the weekend that purports to show the execution of 15 Pakistani soldiers — punishment, they say, for Pakistan attacks on the militants.

The video, according to AFP, which it says obtained a copy, shows the soldiers lined up in three rows, each with their hands bound behind their back and blindfolded. A Taliban leader criticizes the Pakistani government for killing 12 militants, and warns of more revenge killings if the attacks continue, AFP reports.

‘I Resign,’ And Other Things Small Business Wants to Hear at State of Union

Small business owners are not shy about expressing their opinions when it comes to government policies. When we asked members of our Small Business Council what they hope to hear from President Obama in tonight’s State of the Union address, a few recurring themes that pop up. Among them: Reduce federal regulation. Loosen up lending. And, this: I resign.

That last one came from Joseph Dutra, president and CEO of Kimmie Candy Company in Nevada, where the unemployment and foreclosure rates remain high.

It’s unlikely he’ll get his wish, but he wasn’t the only one expressing unhappiness with our current president, or at least Washington.

On the upside, if he said it, that’d leave Sheriff Joe in charge, so schmaybe reality, while it bites, ain’t as bad as it could be.

Gulf states to quit Arab League mission in Syria

Six-nation bloc to pull its monitors out of Syria, after embattled Assad regime rejected a proposal by the Arab League for new presidential and parliamentary elections.

The Gulf Cooperation Council plans to pull its monitors from Syria, an official said Tuesday, after President Bashar Assad’s regime rejected an Arab-brokered plan to end the country’s bloodshed.

The official said a statement is planned outlining the decision by the six-nation bloc, which follows a move by Gulf power Saudi Arabia to remove its 13 monitors.

The Gulf exit could expand rifts within Arab states about how hard to push Assad, whose forces have waged relentless attacks against opposition groups and mutinous security forces for 10 months. The U.N. estimates 5,400 people have died in the violence.

The GCC official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak in advance of the announcement. The bloc includes Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and the United Arab Emirates, which comprised more than half of the 11-nation Arab monitoring mission.

He’s a great, nasty pile of camel hemorrhoids and won’t do a thing we say. We’re so through here.
