Editorial: Obama realizing he’s president?

President Obama’s recess appointment of Richard Cordray to head up the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau is less a blow against the Republicans than a badly needed bulwark against our government’s rapid deterioration into banana republic status.

The increasingly sclerotic nature of our government is worrisome.

…Both Democrats and Republicans have used these tactics, but Republicans have developed them into a (dark) art form in their political jihad against Obama

Bulwark “AGAINST” turning us into a Barack Banana Republic? AGAINST?

Au contraire, mi Pensacola “News” Journal putas! It’s the biggest and best shot yet along the path of El Baracko Guano’s trudging national march to machetes and bandeleros. Or were you just trying spread leepstick on this puerco so the campesinos and burgeoning ranks of descamisados wouldn’t realize that, really, subverting El Constitution ISN’T IN THE CONSTITUTION, no matter WHAT El Baracko Guano decrees?

A Pox On The BCS

Seriously, that stinkfest last night was hopefully the death-knell of it. There’s absolutely no reason there can’t be an 8 team playoff. None. It would take 3 weeks. Prior to last night’s game ‘Bama had last played on November 26th, for god’s sake.

Look at the final top eight in the AP poll:

1. Alabama 12-1
2. LSU 13-1
3. Oklahoma State 12-1
4. Oregon 12-2
5. Stanford 11-2
6. USC 10-2
7. Arkansas 11-2
8. Boise State 12-1

Wouldn’t any fan rather see a tournament amongst them to truly decide who is number 1?

Only he has a way of phrasing his distaste impression better.

Debate Night in the Titanic Ballroom

…I see Terence Jeffrey and Andy McCarthy are having a disagreement about the correct response to a question on gay adoption. The correct response is to take an unconstitutional federally-funded supersized condom, roll it over George Stephanopoulos’ head, and say, “That’s odd. I can no longer hear a word you’re saying. So let me throw in my two bits on impending multi-trillion-dollar ruin…”

Well, DANG! That’s EXACTLY what WE were thinking, only we wanted it big enough to stuff Diane Sawyer in, too.

She was so blitheringly stoned, she would never have noticed if she went in feet first or otherwise.

Hey, You Know What America Really Needs?

We need to increase federal workers’ pay

The White House will propose a 0.5 percent pay increase for civilian federal employees as part of its 2013 budget proposal, according to two senior administration officials familiar with the plans.

Remember, Kids, the only way to save money is to spend as much of it as possible.

This may be the Quote of the Day from a “senior administration official”:

“While modest, a .5 percent increase reflects the belt-tightening we must do in these difficult times.”

Via Ace, here’s CBS News just making shit up.

Listen at the 20 second mark and hear what he says.

And then see what C-B-Farookin’-S decided he actually said.

‘cos, naturally, as he’s some kind of weird Anti-Choice Death Beast who likes to play dolly with dead babies or some such then really anything he says is just NeoConCode for “put Mammy back on the plantation” don’t ya know.

Unbelievable.

ths Update: And as I Tweeted to Ace last night, here’s NPR making sure everyone knows what CBS made up in a Gingrich piece.

…Gingrich’s comments follow those by rival candidate Rick Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania who said Sunday that he did not want to “make black people’s lives better by giving them somebody else’s money. I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money.”

Santorum’s comments were criticized by National Urban League President Marc H. Morial as pandering to racist elements within the GOP. Morial also said that 70 percent of people on food stamps are white. The Agriculture Department does not break down food stamp participation rates by race.

NAACP President Ben Jealous also criticized Santorum’s remarks.

With Sad Little Leon Panetta’s Voice in My Ears, I Present Lt. Gen. John F. Kelly’s Veteran’s Day Speech

St. Louis, MO – 11/11/10

…As we sit here right now, we should not lose sight of the fact that America is at risk in a way it has never been before. Our enemy fights for an ideology based on an irrational hatred of who we are. Make no mistake about that no matter what certain elements of the “chattering class” relentlessly churn out. We did not start this fight, and it will not end until the extremists understand that we as a people will never lose our faith or our courage. If they persist, these terrorists and extremists and the nations that provide them sanctuary, they must know they will continue to be tracked down and captured or killed. America’s civilian and military protectors both here at home and overseas have for nearly nine years fought this enemy to a standstill and have never for a second “wondered why.” They know, and are not afraid. Their struggle is your struggle. They hold in disdain those who claim to support them but not the cause that takes their innocence, their limbs, and even their lives. As a democracy—“We the People”—and that by definition is every one of us—sent them away from home and hearth to fight our enemies. We are all responsible.

I know it doesn’t apply to those of us here tonight but if anyone thinks you can somehow thank them for their service, and not support the cause for which they fight—America’s survival—then they are lying to themselves and rationalizing away something in their lives, but, more importantly, they are slighting our warriors and mocking their commitment to the nation.

Read the entire thing through to the end.
You will weep.

Jon craved French chateau

Jon Corzine and his wealthy wife, Sharon Elghanayan, planned to buy a lavish chateau in the South of France just two weeks before the scandal-hit former New Jersey governor’s firm MF Global went down in flames.

According to a Vanity Fair report, the couple attended a 60th birthday party — for New York real estate developer Daniel Brodsky’s wife — in Paris, where Corzine and Elghanayan boasted to fellow guests about their plans to snap up a sprawling Riviera residence.

“Two weeks before MF Global filed for bankruptcy, [Corzine and Elghanayan] were at a birthday party in Paris talking about a chateau they were about to buy in the South of France,” VF claims, adding that Elghanayan told a fellow guest, “ ‘It’s not in Cap Ferrat’ . . . perhaps to mitigate the extravagance.”

She assures me we’re all welcome once she closes, since she’ll need lots of “domestics”. WTF is that?

My Senator, Ladies and Gentlemen

RUBIO: OUR DEBT IS KILLING OUR ECONOMY AND WEAKENING OUR NATIONAL SECURITY

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio issued the following statement regarding Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s defense budget announcement:

“I have long been concerned by the ability of our nation’s runaway spending and debt to weaken our national security, and now we are starting to see the real consequences. The President’s failure to tackle our debt is killing our economy, weakening our national security and threatening the very essence of America’s exceptionalism.

Secretary Panetta’s announcement directly signals to our friends and adversaries America’s diminished ability to project power on a global scale and defend our interests during a very uncertain time. With even more automatic cuts to our national security programs coming next year because of Washington’s failure to rein in the debt, this should be a wake-up call to Washington about the need to get our spending under control. As long as Washington politicians continue borrowing and spending money to grow government and do things government has no business doing, we will be imperiling our people’s security by forcing us to sacrifice strategic national security capabilities.

“I am particularly concerned about the impact these cuts will have on our security interests in the Western Hemisphere. Given the growing influence of Iran in Latin America, the proliferation of violent drug cartels and the dangerous behavior of tyrannical leaders, it is troubling that this President’s failures in Latin America continue to grow on both the diplomatic and security fronts.”

Obama campaign warns of ‘extremist’ Republicans

US President Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign early Wednesday sought to portray the nation’s first Republican nomination battle as a victory for “extremist” candidates.

The Iowa caucuses — which saw former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney barely edge out former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum by eight votes — launched the battle to deny Obama his hoped-for second term.

In keeping with its previous line of attack, the Obama campaign’s manager Jim Messina said in a statement that the “extremist Tea Party agenda won a clear victory” shortly after the results were announced early Wednesday.

“No matter who the Republicans nominate, we’ll be running against someone who has embraced that agenda in order to win — vowing to let Wall Street write its own rules, end Medicare as we know it, roll back gay rights, leave the troops in Iraq indefinitely, restrict a woman’s right to choose, and gut Social Security to pay for more tax cuts for millionaires and corporations.”

MF Global Sold Assets to Goldman Before Collapse

MF Global unloaded hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of securities to Goldman Sachs in the days leading up to its collapse, according to two former MF Global employees with direct knowledge of the transactions.

But it did not immediately receive payment from its clearing firm and lender, JPMorgan Chase & Co [JPXVZ — UNCH () ], one of the sources said.

…At the same time MF Global, which was run by former Goldman Sachs head Jon Corzine, was selling securities to Goldman to raise badly needed cash, the futures firm was also drawing down a $1.2 billion revolving line of credit it had with JPMorgan, according to one of the former MF Global employees.

The hastily crafted transactions and the seeming inability of MF Global to recoup some of the money in the sale to Goldman may start to explain why so much money remains unaccounted for at the futures firm.

It is unclear what type of assets Goldman bought from MF Global, but the securities were worth hundreds of millions of dollars, the former employees said.

The sources spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Anonymous is probably a good idea, safety-wise, eh?

OMGZ It’s A Hate Crime!!!!!!!!!

Except when it’s, er, not

It wasn’t a hate crime — it was pure revenge.

A deranged Queens man confessed yesterday to a series of Molotov-cocktail attacks on New Year’s Day, telling cops he was hellbent on getting even for perceived slights at each target, sources told The Post.

During a fiery rampage that stretched from 8 p.m. to 10:15 p.m., the alleged firebomber, Ray Lazier Lengend, got back at a Jamaica Islamic center for not letting him use the bathroom, settled two personal beefs, and took out his frustration on a deli owner who caught him shoplifting.

I was suspicious of this when I first heard about it. All the usual political and “community” creatures came out expressing their OUTRAGE at this HATE CRIME. Yesterday when the police announced they had detained someone but didn’t release any details on the person then you just knew they were trying to figure out the spin on it to feed their agenda…and they failed. So on the radio this morning the first story was about how they had arrested the suspect but they gave zero details…and then they quickly switched to the California Car-B-Q-er arrest, giving of course full details on his name, nationality etc.

Pathetic.

Venezuela Shrinks Nationalization Payment to Exxon

Venezuela’s PDVSA said on Monday it will pay Exxon Mobil $255 million in compensation for nationalized assets—less than a third of what the U.S. oil giant said it was awarded by an arbitration panel.

The South American OPEC member’s state oil company issued a defiant statement saying it was deducting debts owed by Exxon, including PDVSA’s repurchase of bonds linked to the nationalized project.

…Paying only $255 million would leave Exxon [XOM 84.76 -0.51 (-0.6%) ] with only a fraction of the more than $10 billion it originally sought in compensation, and it would be a major victory for Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez that could give oil-producing nations more power in nationalization disputes with companies.

But Exxon may still come away with a larger payment because it is pursuing a separate case against Venezuela before the World Bank’s arbitration tribunal. Both cases deal with the 2007 nationalization of the Cerro Negro project, in the vast Orinoco heavy crude belt, one of the world’s biggest crude reserves.

Like Daffy Duck in the treasure cave, “Mine, Mine, it’s ALL MINE!” means more when your fat feathered ass is ON top of the bullion pile.

There was one paragraph that gave me a teensy, tiny moment’s pause, though. Imagine for a second, if you will, no Chavez vs. Exxon. This taking aim at administration critics/thorns-in-one’s-side/KoolAde-refusers sounds familiar…

…”If Exxon Mobil continues with this second arbitration and its efforts to secure exorbitant compensation for the nationalization, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will take all necessary steps to defend itself,” PDVSA said on Monday.

The often vicious legal dispute, during which Exxon briefly managed to freeze as much as $12 billion in PDVSA assets, underlined the ideological differences between the U.S. oil giant and Chavez’s socialist administration.

Iran Tells Departed US Carrier Not to Return

Iran’s army chief told the United States that a U.S. aircraft carrier which left the area because of Iranian naval exercises should not return to the Gulf, the state news agency reported on Tuesday.

Iran will not repeat its warning … the enemy’s carrier has been moved to the Sea of Oman because of our drill. I recommend and emphasize to the American carrier not to return to the Persian Gulf,” Ataollah Salehi told IRNA.
