Angry Travellers Hit Out At Plotters

It goes to this article

‘Terrorists Must Not Win’

…where the quote in the headline never appears, neither does ‘anger’ and only one of the interviewed travellers is actually talking about ‘terrorists’. (“If I can’t get to Brighton, they win.”) Everyone else is stoic/philosophical about missed flights or 8 hours without their iPod. WTF is that? WAKE the f*ck up and for Christ’s sake GET MAD !! Whatever happened to “I want the people who wish me dead DEAD!” English grace under pressure is one thing, but we are fast approaching Neville Chamberlin territory. C’mon, c’mon, c’MON and stop this pretense of feeling their pain when THEY’RE the ones inflicting it!
Can you imagine a New Yorker, had it been centered here? (I can…)

“I don’t give a rats a$$ who these motherf*ckers think they are, but they can come see Vinnie and I’ll show them how we act in this country. Blowin’ up women and children and disruptin’ interstate commerce? You and what army, Ahmed? I got your virgins right here, you sick [p-word]. Those f*cked up bastards need their a$$es kicked and we’re just the guys to do it. I’d say back to the stone age, but, since they’re already there, there ain’t much point to diplomacy, like we were f*ckin’ French or something.”

What’s with this?

Why is this a big deal? Am I missing something? These kids are the ones who are more likely to be killed by one of the Hiz folks, but they are not allowed to express their feelings about the conflict? It is not as though the are the ones pulling the trigger.
Bingley Update: Looks like Crusader and I were working on the same post at the same time…here’s my edition:
I guess I slept through the latest ‘scandal’ to strike the Zionsphere:

In the public relations battle brewing on-line, there is a new eye to the center of the storm surrounding the war with Hizbullah – a series of photos showing Israeli children writing messages on shells meant for targets in Lebanon.
Questions over the photos’ authenticity have been put to rest by authorities that were present during the incident, which occurred on July 17 near the northern border. The mostly local children had been brought to see the shells by their parents. Although it remains unclear who encouraged them to write the messages, their colorful scribbles, including a Star of David, hearts, and “From Israel, with Love,” have appeared in dozens of blogs, or on-line journals, and on-line photo hosting sites.

Sorry, I have no problem with this. Those poor kids have grown up never knowing if some crazy-assed jihadist is going to blow up their school or their bus, and some bastards who don’t blink when PLO or Hamas let their kids dress up as suicide bombers for parades get their panties twisted over this? Go Israel!

An official close to Israel’s public relations campaign said that there was “no way” to spin the incident in a positive light. “Some people are simply irresponsible,” said the official.

I see it as very positive, a people fighting back. Go Israel!

A good read on…..

Proportional Response. When will we finally deal with these vermin?

The Taliban Has Captured Some Towns In Afghanistan?

This is the headline on CNN:

The U.S.-led military confirms that the Taliban has captured two southern Afghan towns, and vows “decisive action” to reclaim them, The Associated Press reports.

What the hell is up with that?
Update: They’ve added a story:

Scores of Taliban militants chased police out of two southern Helmand districts near the Pakistani border.
“The Taliban extremists have taken control of the areas of Garmser and Naway-i-Barakzayi, however, coalition forces do have them under observation,” military spokesman Col. Tom Collins told reporters in Kabul.
“Decisive operations will begin soon,” he added without saying when.

I would hope.

When Clowns Attack

So they’re having problems with nasty clowns out in Seattle, it seems:

For several nights last month, a group of thugs with black hooded sweat shirts pulled tight over their heads, including at least one in “angry” clown makeup, terrorized visitors to Pierce County’s Fort Steilacoom Park, police say.
The group cried “woo, woo, Juggalo” as they assaulted park visitors with a machete and fists. They stole cellphones, cash and wallets and even threatened to cut their victims’ heads off, according to court documents.
So far, two men and a woman have been charged with robbery and assault for their alleged roles in the string of attacks, said Pierce County deputy prosecutor Phil Sorensen. Prosecutors say the suspects claim to be “Juggalos,” a subculture that has developed among the fan base of the rap/metal group Insane Clown Posse.

Angry clowns? Insane Clowns? Psshaw. Mere shadows and pale caricatures of the one true Evil Clown in this world…

New type of shark found only in South Carolina waters?

The shark resembles a common species called the scalloped hammerhead but has not yet been classified or named.
US researchers say the animal appears to be rare, breeding only in waters off the South Carolina coast.

Lemme guess, they recognized it since it was missing teeth?

Wow, This Woman Really Is A…

Democrap:

GREELEY, Colo.
Republican U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave’s re-election campaign was already heated, and it just got smelly as well: Her staff accused a Democratic activist Thursday of leaving an envelope full of dog feces at Musgrave’s Greeley office.
Musgrave spokesman Shaun Kenney said someone stuffed the envelope through the mail slot in the door on May 31 and then sped away in a car. Kenney said most of the preprinted return address was blacked out, but staffers used the nine-digit ZIP code to trace it to Kathleen Ensz, a Weld County Democratic volunteer.
Ensz told The Associated Press she left the envelope at Musgrave’s office but said it “wasn’t in the office doors, it was in the foyer.” Asked what she meant by the act, she declined comment.

Heh.

I’m not holding my breath…

but a good read.

The problem is not that the two parties are polarized. In many ways they’re closer than ever. The problem is that the parties in Washington, and the people on the ground in America, are polarized. There is an increasing and profound distance between the rulers of both parties and the people–between the elites and the grunts, between those in power and those who put them there.

I just fear that most voters are too lazy to even look at a third party.

The CAG’d kill me…

but I’d love to see them live. To bad ole Layne screwed his life away……

Interesting report…..

from Gen Barry McCaffery. Good read on what is happening in Iraq.

The morale, fighting effectiveness, and confidence of U.S. combat forces continue to be simply awe-inspiring. In every sensing session and interaction – I probed for weakness and found courage, belief in the mission, enormous confidence in their sergeants and company grade officers, an understanding of the larger mission, a commitment to creating an effective Iraqi Army and Police, unabashed patriotism, and a sense of humor. All of these soldiers, NCOs and young officers were volunteers for combat. Many were on their second combat tour – several were on the third or fourth combat tour. Many had re-enlisted to stay with their unit on its return to a second Iraq deployment. Many planned to re-enlist regardless of how long the war went on.

He gives a pretty honest view from the ground.

I found what Ken mentioned about the poor guy facing death for converting to Christianity…

here.

“For 30 years, we have fought religious wars in this country and there is no way we are going to allow an Afghan to insult us by becoming Christian,” said Mohammed Jan, 38, who lives opposite Rahman’s father, Abdul Manan, in Kabul. “This has brought so much shame.”
Rahman is believed to have converted from Islam to Christianity while working as a medical aid worker for an international Christian group helping Afghan refugees in the Pakistani city of Peshawar.
He then moved to Germany for nine years before returning to Kabul in 2002, after the ouster of the hard-line Taliban regime.
Police arrested him last month after discovering him in possession of a Bible during questioning over a dispute for custody of his two daughters. Prosecutors have offered to drop the charges if Rahman converts back to Islam, but he has refused.

This is unacceptable.

Them and Us

The French, I mean.

Dominique de Villepin, France’s prime minister, faced a deepening crisis on Thursday as thousands of students stepped up protests over his labour reform plans.

The student are fixin’ to rumble ~ some have already started with the de rigueur smashed windows, setting fire to kiosks and cars, blahblahblah. Pencil in a geriatric beating for two thirty, Francois and Abdullah, in the name of your disenfranchisement. So, the frenzy’s all about what? A new national employment contract,

The proposed contract allows employers to dismiss staff under the age of 26 more easily during a two-year trial period. Mr de Villepin has argued that it wouldcut France’s crippling unemployment. But students say it will bring instability, making them “the Kleenex generation”, used and then discarded. The battle over the new contract has dragged the prime minister’s popularity to record lows.

What a whacko system ~ I wouldn’t want it changed either, but they’re gonna be mighty surprised when it implodes. Grow up, France. I never got a trial period for any job I ever had. I did it until one of us decided I was gone. Free enterprise, capitalism, supply and demand, maybe a little worker productivity thrown in for the hell of it.

If it wasn’t bad enough that we were losing the F-14s….

as THS mentioned yesterday, the Fleet Air Arm is losing the last of its Sea Harriers. Truly a sad year.

Another idea to prevent a repeat of Katrina….

From Varifrank:

What I learned from Katrina and the half a dozen other Hurricanes last year is that there is nothing that FEMA can do that if FEMA’s funding and mission were given instead to the US Coast Guard, that the Coast Guard could instead deliver, faster, better, cheaper and with more accountability than FEMA ever hoped it could.
So in that spirit, let’s consider this idea.
Let’s give the US Coast Guard:
The USS Constellation,
The USS Kitty Hawk
and the USS John F. Kennedy
( all non nuclear Carriers, that are either mothballed or soon to be ) and create three maritime “Emergency Response Task Forces” with the current Navy hospital ships as their core. Place one task force on each coast – Pacific – Atlantic and Gulf.

Or maybe the Oriskany? Heh

If yesterday and today are what global warming looks like….

I say:
Bring.
It.
On.

12:30 this morning, I was sitting in my garage, working on a model car, in shorts and a t-shirt. After having played about 3 hours worth of Doom3 on the Xbox, with the window next to me open. Gotta love Norf Cackalackie.

Was surfing the Net for pictures of my namesake….

and came accross this bit of trivia.
It is down the page a bit in the 5th comment.

Our OIC was LCDR Beam and we had four RF-8G aircraft. I recall one of our pilots was a Lt. Tom Scott and upon returning from a mission, he hit the “round down” while attempting to catch a wire on the flight deck. It severed the landing gear and the plane slid across the angle deck and over the side into the ocean. Lt. Scott ejected safely and was picked up by helicopter. This particular RF-8G had a small gold plaque near the canopy that stated “This is the F-8 that John Glenn (astronaut)set the transcontinental speed record in.” I recall guys saying that this plane was supposed to go to the Smithsonian after our cruise, but now it lies at the bottom of the Tonkin Gulf.

Shame they didn’t preserve the plane a bit earlier, as God knows they were not short of F-8s to convert to Photo-Saders. But hind-sight and all that. A neat story, if it is true, which I have not done the legwork to verify.
